Preparing to Proclaim: An Introduction to Evangelism

Final Thoughts

Is evangelism easy?

No.

If evangelism were easy, everybody in the congregation would be verbally proclaiming the gospel to all people in their community.

“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.”

Matthew 10:34

There is a great war going on and the Lord has set you apart to be his disciples. You have been hand-picked.

Why have you been set apart?  To spread his Word until the time Jesus comes again.

Final Thoughts

A major point in the evangelism training that you will receive from Praise and Proclaim is that personal evangelism is far more about God than it is about ourselves. Evangelism is far more about God’s Work in us, for us, and through us than it is about our work for God. Evangelism is far more about trusting that God’s Word works rather than our words.

The greatest obstacles that Christians face in personal evangelism is getting ourselves out of the way.

Evangelism is not easy. In fact, it takes a miracle.  And that will be our focus in our next lesson.

I think it’s easier these days the physical sense, as in I’m not really worried about my personal safety if I share the gospel, but I think that Christianity has a lot of bad PR these days which can be a tough obstacle to overcome.

I agree. Most unchurched folks will understandably be wary when approached by Christians. Either due to bad PR or even a bad experience in church that may have happened many years ago. Thanks for the comment.

I feel like it’s easier to share the gospel because we have so many resources available like social media applications. Unfortunately, it’s not as easy as it seems to connect others to God. Our society is so divided and Christianity has received so much hatred. Although I may have the best interest at heart to share God’s word with my friends and family, they may see it as an attack instead. The lack of unity, only encourages me to spread His word even more!

I am glad I found this Bible study. It is already showing me I can do this job that Jesus gave me, to go and tell my friends, my neighbors, any person God puts in my path about Jesus. I don’t have to worry I will say something wrong. I will have the words because the Holy Spirit will put the words in my moth to speak.

Thank you, Peggi. Evangelism is far more about trusting God’s promises and assurances than it is about us. He desires for us to put the pressure on him rather than us to be effective. This frees us up to simply be his messengers.

Great. Bike study Dave! Two thoughts: First is the work of boldly going to proclaim is always done with another believer that can provide help and support. Second is God provides opportunities to proclaim the Gospel when we aren’t necessarily prepared for it. A recent visit to my dentist for a routine cleaning reminded me of personal one on one time with my hygienist to discuss this topic, for example. Thank you!

Thank you, Nils. I agree with you. Its surprising how often the Lord provides opportunities to be his witness rather than us trying to create opportunities. Jesus sent out his disciples in pairs — and for good reason. They provide encouragement, support, and even accountability. But at the same time, the Holy Spirit is there with us as well whenever we are alone to provide help an support. Thanks for sharing about your recent visit to the dentist office. You were ready to proclaim even when you didn’t feel like it. That’s great!
