3 Ways Christians can Proclaim God’s Pursuing Love to Others
Jesus courts unbelievers and wins them through his grace. He uses his faithful servants to be couriers who provide messages of God’s pursuing love.
Christ woos unbelieving hearts that are darkened by sin. His pursuing love is perfect and unrelenting.
Scripture gives a reason for his pursuing grace. Christ’s love rescues lost souls from the eternal consequences of sin.
In the powerful words of Revelation, we are provided with portraits of the future. Some of these word pictures are stunning. Some are scary. They are descriptions of eternity – for those who choose to reject Christ’s love and those who receive his grace through faith.
“Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:
For our Lord God Almighty reigns.
Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory!
For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.
Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.”
[Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy people.]
Then the angel said to me, “Write this: ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!’” And he added, “These are the true words of God.”
At this I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus.” [Revelation 19:6-10]
A powerful description the Bible uses to describe eternity is a wedding. Christ courts prospective brides. During the courting process, Jesus eventually asks, “Will you marry me?” Believers are described as brides who have been given the promise of marriage and are asked to wait patiently for that day when Christ, the groom, comes to claim them and bring them home.
Sadly, many reject Christ and turn instead to the seductive advances of the world. They believe that the world offers something better.
Christ knows rejection all too well. The cross reminds us of that truth. Yet, despite rejection, Christ continues to pursue because his perfect love is never-ending. His invitation to unbelievers come with the words, “Your sins are fully forgiven. Believe!” His words are not just a wedding proposal, but they have the power to create faith. “Believe” is that word a prospective bride can either choose to reject or trust to be true.
“Faith focuses on the future joys of heaven.” (Wayne Mueller)
In God’s wisdom and purpose for his church, he uses believers to help in the courtship of an unbelieving world.
Christ works through believers to gain people’s trust and reveal his grace. He courts unbelievers through his faithful servants who reveal their light and display the benefits of a fruit-filled faith that produces peace, joy, gentleness, and kindness. Believers who “hold to the testimony of Jesus” cannot help but proclaim the testimony of Jesus with the world. Even with their neighbor!
Here are 3 ways Christians help in the courtship of unbelievers and proclaim God’s pursuing love:
- They engage people. They firmly believe that every soul is a “match made in heaven.”
- They invite people. Despite outward appearances, they are not afraid to hit the country roads and invite people to come to the wedding banquet. (Luke 14:23)
- They deliver messages. Christ’s testimony is our testimony. We can say, “Everything is ready. Christ has done it all for you to be right with God. Trust his love. He has sacrificed himself for you. Believe.”
“Heaven consummated the marriage of the Lamb to his bride, the church.” (Wayne Mueller)
Faith anticipates. Faith invites.
Faith anticipates a wedding celebration for the ages.
It will be a reception without end. The beauty, joy, and the majesty of the moment will be constant. A groom and his bride are forever newlyweds basking in the joy where hope and dreams are continually fulfilled.
Faith invites the world to come to the wedding celebration… because the time is drawing near.
Christ’s pursing love rescues people from eternal damnation. With a renewed sense of urgency, believers share the gospel message with others. The doors to the wedding banquet are closing soon.
