Wisdom in Christ prompts concern for souls

Those who trust in God’s promises are secure about their citizenship in heaven and confident in their eternal inheritance because of what Christ has already done for them. Proclaiming the Good News is a natural outpouring of their faith that is prompted by love, concern, and wisdom.

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and the one who is wise saves lives.”  (Proverbs 11:30)

A thriving, healthy tree produces good fruit. It is a natural result from being connected to strong roots that have access to an abundant spring of water.

A thriving, healthy faith produces fruits of righteousness that is a spiritual result from being attached to the Vine. The abundant springs of living water nourishes, provides, and sustains trust in God’s promises. A strong inner faith produces outward fruit. Believers rooted in Christ are righteous because of Christ’s righteousness. They are faithful because of Christ’s faithfulness. They respond with patience, love, and gentleness no matter what circumstances life throws at them.

They are wise in how they act with outsiders and gospel intentional in all they do. They are conscious of building bridges with people Christ has placed within their personal network. They boldly introduce Christ and plant the seeds of the gospel by verbally witnessing to them the reason for the hope they have in Christ.

The wisdom of the righteous saves lives… its fruit is a tree of life.

Reference is given in Revelation 22 that a tree of life awaits believers in heaven. Like a magnificent pearl or a valuable coin, those rooted in Christ will exhibit wisdom by seeking out lost sheep and saving them. They realize that life on earth pales in comparison to what awaits in eternal life. Treasures in heaven are far more valuable and ought to be pursued rather than treasures on earth. This heavenly-mindedness keeps us gospel intentional in all that we do and say.

Sharing our faith is a testimony of our faith. Our lips convey what resides in our hearts. A healthy branch that is connected to Christ produces low hanging fruit. It is bent down to the ground because of the abundance of fruit so it can be more readily picked.

The commission to go and make disciples through the verbal proclamation of the powerful words of the gospel is not a threat to give evidence of fruit, but a privilege to produce it. The fruit of the righteous is meant to be picked and consumed, not to be put on display. They are meant to be picked by the unrighteous so that they may be wise for salvation and receive the wisdom of Go.

A wise believer understands that their primary purpose in this life is to bring as many people to heaven as possible. They are faithful servants that answers the call to go out into the country roads and invite people to come to their Master’s banquet — because the banquet is ready and the doors are about to close.

We can pray,

“Lord, in this busy life with demands of work and family looming large in our conscious, may we always be mindful of you and your presence in our lives. By remaining in you, our salvation is secure. By being connected to you, we live fruitful lives. Remind us of the purpose for producing good fruit – that it may be shared with others so that as many people as possible may receive eternal life in heaven. That is our purpose. That is our privilege. That is our response from a thankful heart that rejoices in all that you have done for us. Amen”
