Proclaiming the gospel in Pflugerville TX

Pflugerville, TX is a growing city north of Austin with a population of 64,000. With toll-roads providing easy access to downtown, more families are moving into new homes that are spreading throughout the suburb region.

Holy Word Lutheran Church took advantage of this growth trend by starting a second site seven years ago. A gathering of believers met together and purchased a sizeable area of land with the intent to plant a new church and school. In the past year, a decision was made to turn the site into a separate congregation and CrossLife Church was born. Praise and Proclaim had the privilege to partner with Rev. Daron Lindemann and the members at the new church to provide evangelism training in conjunction with its grand opening in September.

The outreach initiative took place the weekend of June 14-16. Since the members at CrossLife were worshiping on Sunday morning at a Seventh-Day Adventist church that is adjacent to their property, the training took place Friday evening at a member’s house less than a mile away.

For the past several summers, students from Wisconsin Lutheran High School (Milwaukee) would come to Pflugerville to assist Pastor Lindemann with outreach activities. This outreach initiative was conducted in conjunction with their arrival. Nine students who will be juniors in the fall were accompanied by Pastor David and Stacy Bitter (St. John/Milwaukee). They spent the entire week canvassing the neighborhoods close to the congregation.

The members and the students gathered in a spacious back yard of a member’s house and learned how to use tools to engage people in their community, invite them to a specific event hosted by the congregation, and eagerly give reasons for the hope they have in Christ. CrossLife was hosting preview services on Sunday morning and conducting health workshops on select Sundays. These activities were intended to introduce the congregation leading up to the Grand Opening celebration in September.

The postcard and the invite were utilized to engage people at their door and provide an easier and smoother transition to sharing a short gospel message.

The following day, Praise and Proclaim provided an opportunity for members and students to immediately put their training into action. Despite hot and humid temperatures in the 90s, with a head index of 102 degrees in the afternoon, a group of twenty people knocked on over seven hundred doors.

We were grateful for the people the Lord allowed us to meet at the door. For some homes, our timing was perfect.  Families were just moving into the area and several were looking for a new church home. We rejoiced over the number of people who gave us their email addresses to learn more about the new church coming to their neighborhood.

This was another great opportunity for a congregation to learn that most of the people living in their community are unchurched and need to hear about Jesus. They may never have heard a clear gospel message of what Jesus has already done for us. Though people may have grown up in a church, they have stopped going to church on a regular basis. At the end of the day, the participants proclaimed the gospel 123 times. It certainly appeared that this is a perfect time to start a new church.

May the Lord continue to bless the ongoing gospel ministry in Pflugerville led by Pastor Daron Lindemann. It was a privilege for Praise and Proclaim to come and partner with him and the faithful members.
