Words God gives us when confronting fear

When confronted with fear, feeling overwhelmed, tempted to give up or give in, we are given these words from God:

Don’t fear

Stand firm

You will see

These are not buzzwords but promises.

Words glistening with meaning and power.

Not just suggestions, but assurances given in the face of adversity.

These words are perfectly reliable because they come from a perfect God who sees the big picture.

Don’t Fear. Stand firm. You will see.

These words were given to Moses when His people were in great peril.

Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The LORD will fight for you: you need only to be still.” (Exodus 14:13-14)

Massive dust clouds were announcing their arrival. Six hundred of the Pharaoh’s best chariots converged over the small hills guarding the Red Sea. Swift, overpowering, and frightening. Panic gripped the defenseless masses huddled along the shoreline. What could they do? Where could they turn?

Trust flew out the window at the first sign of imminent danger. The same Lord who brought the plagues to Egypt and miraculously delivered His people from the clutches of slavery was quickly forgotten.

Fear produces short memories about what God has already done for us.

God has a perfect track record on keeping promises. Faith needs constant reminders of this truth.

The Israelite people needed reminders when confronting terrifying circumstances and Moses pointed to God alone as their deliverer.

His words still resonate with us today when a nation appears gripped with fear.

1. “Do not be afraid.”

Fear has no place in a life remaining in Christ that is firmly holding on to his promises. His perfect love drives out fear that grips our hearts whenever we face difficult circumstances.

2. “Stand firm.”

In the face of adversity, victory is assured. Our battles are really the Lord’s battles. He fights for us.

3. You will see

Adversity is God’s way for us to experience His constant deliverance. We grow in trust. We learn to conquer fear.

God gives us two words to live by in the face of adversity.

Be still.

The Hebrew word for “still” means to cease striving. It means to trust that God is not only working in us, but He is also working for us in every challenging situation.

Be still and know that He is God and we are not.

Be still and turn your cares and concerns over to Him because he is listening.

Be still for the Lord has your back. He is fighting for you.

Be still and “you will see” that our Lord has this under control.

Be still and remember that He is God who always keeps his promises.
