Trust in the power of God’s Word prompts action to proclaim it

God’s ways are not our ways. His thoughts are not our thoughts. Perhaps what baffles us the most about God is that he uses believers to carry out his highest purpose – to bring people to heaven. “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth. It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”  (Isaiah 55:10-11)

It is hard to imagine that God sets believers apart from the world to carry out a very important purpose.

To be his messengers.

Believers are Christ’s ambassadors. They are his representatives to an unbelieving world.

Faith drives believers to be his servants. Thankfulness inspires them to serve.

But there is something more than sheer obedience or an act of the will.  The mystery and the power of God’s presence.

It is his presence within believers that they become light.

It is his presence is for them that they become salt.

It is his presence through them that they proclaim his name.

It is his power through his Words that people come to repentance and receive salvation.

His words are effective because they come from Him.

His words are true because they are his.

His Words are “God breathed” so that every believer is thoroughly equipped to do good works including the proclamation of his Word to others.

Receiving faith can be a process. Many people are like hard-packed earth that needs to be tilled. God works repentance in the lives of people by faithfully tilling the ground in unsuspecting ways. Believers are farmers who generously sow the seeds of his Word – not judging the condition of the soil of people’s hearts but trusting the power of the seed. Then beneath the naked eye, a process of faith begins until a shoot appears and blossoms into a fruit of faith.

Evangelists trust the power behind the message rather than their own abilities. They trust that God’s Word works and this prompts faith-filled action.

“For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”  (2 Peter 1:21)

Prophets are God’s messengers. They step out in faith to share their faith despite fear and challenging circumstances. For this reason, believers today must rely on the Holy Spirit – His presence through them, for them, and in them.

We can pray,

“Lord, your utmost desire and purpose for our lives is to bring as many people as possible to heaven through the power of your Word. Embolden us through the power of your presence to proclaim this message to others. Thank you, Lord, for this calling. Thank you, Lord, for this privilege. We trust your promise that when we step out in faith to share our faith with yours that you are with us. In your name, we pray. Amen.”
