Finding a Key to unlock the mystery of faith
Sherlock Holmes relied on deductive reasoning. Thomas Edison relied on experiments. Even Benjamin Franklin flew a kite during a thunderstorm. Each attempted to unlock a mystery using skill and intuitive minds.
The gospel of Jesus Christ is a mystery. A key is needed outside of a person’s power or reasoning. Without it, a heart will remain locked and unable to receive the saving power of God’s grace.
Every Christian has been given the key to salvation to unlock the mystery of faith. And Christ is asking every person who trusts in Him to share it with others.
What is the key? Where can I find the key to unlock the mystery of faith?
There is a mystery that surrounds the Truth that sets a person free.
Without faith, Truth hangs like a dense fog for those who refuse to believe God’s promises. Whereas faith receives, accepts, and trusts – unbelief denies, doubts, and disclaims.
The peace that rests in the comfort of knowing that our sins are forgiven trumps the unanswerable questions of trying to fully understand God’s nature and wisdom. When our salvation is secure, we revel in the peace that goes beyond our understanding. Unbelievers don’t understand this and try to utilize the mysteries of faith to justify their unbelief.
Since our human minds cannot fathom the mysteries behind the kingdom of heaven, Jesus spoke in parables. When he did, those without faith went away scratching their heads. They didn’t grasp its meaning, nor were they truly interested in spiritual things. Notice that they did not return back to Jesus and asked him what He meant.
Attempting to explain the mysteries of faith is usually a fruitless exercise to win the hearts of unbelievers. Evangelists – all Christians who step out in faith to share their faith – are called upon to use one key to unlock human hearts. It is a key not forged out of our own skill or intelligence, but already forged and placed in our hands.
The key is Jesus Christ and what He has accomplished for us on the cross.
“To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me.” (Colossians 1:27-29)
“This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.” (Ephesian 3:6)
The power of the Holy Spirit works powerfully in believers to proclaim the mystery of the gospel. The Holy Spirit works through the message to bring those dead in sin to life in Christ.
Jesus Christ is the key that unlocks the mystery of faith. He is the key that provides peace and heirs of the treasures in heaven.
The presence of Christ within us and the presence of Christ in God’s Word is the key we offer to the world. We proclaim what people must know and believe in order to be declared not guilty in God’s eyes. For that happen;
People must be convinced that they have no hope in hearing a “not guilty” verdict through their own efforts.
People need to hear God’s standards for following his commands to show people their sins and the eternal consequences of those sins.
People need to be convinced that God has done all that is needed for them to be declared “not guilty”.
People need to be pointed to the saving work of Jesus Christ as revealed in the power of God’s Word.
“The primary task of the evangelist, then, is to preach the law to point out to people what is wrong with their lives and why this is so and what the consequences are, and then to preach the gospel to reveal how God has solved their spiritual dilemma.” (David J. Valleskey, We Believe – Therefore We Speak)
Christians who Witness Well, always remember that the key of Christ is the only way to unlock human hearts dead in sin. Resting in Him, we joyfully and confidently proclaim His name to the world.
