A skill that will never die
With technology and Artificial Intelligence quickly entering the mainstream of our society, there is one skill that will never die — the ability to tell stories. According to Lawrence Yeo, people will always be drawn to the human experience that will help define our relationship with AI and technology. Computers are instruments the mind uses but are not substitutes. Our human mind discerns, and processes information and stories help us do that. The ability to tell stories may increase in value in the years ahead, and, if done correctly, be the most persuasive to engage and communicate biblical truth.
A week ago, with the arrival of the latest version of DeepSeek from China, artificial intelligence will be more accessible and will be quickly entering into the mainstream of society at a frenetic pace.
“This is how it always starts. The next generation will only know growing up working with AI (Artificial Intelligence), making it unstoppable in the enterprise. Working without AI would be like going into a company that didn’t use email 30 years ago.” (Aaron Levie – on X)
People who did not grow up with the internet will never totally grasp technology. We know enough to be functional and often rely on others for help.
The experts are telling us that we don’t need to understand how technology works in order to use it. Instead of being frustrated or intimidated, we can adopt a willingness to learn, experiment, and support congregational efforts to use technology as a tool to engage, invite, and proclaim the gospel to our community. The greatest success is not necessarily how people will respond to your efforts but beginning to build a virtual bridge for people to safely walk across to discover real answers to their deepest longings.
Adopting a mission mind-set means routinely using technology as tools to throw to people the life preservers of saving Truth — a message of salvation that never changes.
