Promises

When God commissions all believers to go, teach, and baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, he also attaches an amazing promise — I will be with you.

One of the greatest joys of sharing God’s Word with others is to experience the promise that Christ is with us. Evangelists are not alone! We are given the privilege of introducing the presence of Christ through His Word, but we also trust His promise that He is with us. The work of sharing the message of Christ is not about us, but all about Christ.  It is His message, His power, and His presence that gives us the boldness to proclaim and works in the hearts of unbelievers.

Sometimes Christians don’t focus on the right “I”.

“When Jesus called His disciples, they were novices, unprepared to proclaim His salvation to the world. So Jesus promised them, “Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Mt. 4:19). ..If you focus on the wrong “I,” namely yourself, you are likely to doubt you will become a fisher of men. But look at the promise again. “Come, follow, me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” Who is the “I” in this verse? Not you, but Jesus! ..Focus on the right “I,” Jesus, and you will find Him transforming you into something you always longed to be — but perhaps doubted was possible — a fisher of lost people.”  [Phil Bickel, Outreach Promises: God’s Encouragement for Sharing Your Faith)
