Power in the Name of Jesus

Every prayer is power-packed every time we pray in the name of Jesus.

I have recently started reading the book of Acts. In the 3rd chapter, Peter and John are going into the temple and come upon a man, lame from birth, begging for money. Verses 6 and 8 have been the chorus of a tune that, when my kids were young, we would often sing – and now I cannot read those verses without singing the chorus. Anyway, when reading/singing the verses this time around, what struck me were the words Peter used when speaking to the man, “…in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk.”

IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST – that is in whose name we pray – Jesus’ name – there is power in that name – real power – visible power – and we can bank on that power when we pray.  Every time I pray, every time we pray, the prayer is power-packed because of the name of Jesus. Let us remember that the next time we pray.

I have a prayer request from Debbie.  She asks for prayers to be able to witness to a new nurse who just started working with her a few months ago. As Debbie is getting to know her, it is quite apparent that she is a life-long Mormon, steeped in those beliefs. Debbie would appreciate prayers for the opportunity to witness to her and plant the seed. Since moving into the area, her co-worker has experienced a good deal of turmoil in her life and she is under a great deal of stress. Debbie has told her that she is praying for her. She would greatly appreciate our prayers – our powerful prayers.

Acts 3:6, 16

Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give to you.  In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” …”By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see was made strong.  It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through Him that has completely healed him, as you can see.”

Dear almighty God,

Wow! The great power You give in the name of Jesus! The great power You give in prayer! Thank you!! May I live that reality in my life and in my prayer life. LORD, I pray in Jesus’ name for Debbie and her new co-worker. Give Debbie opportunities to plant those seeds. May this coworker see the real Jesus in Debbie in her words and actions. May Your Spirit work mightily in the heart of this new nurse and all others Debbie works with who do not know the real You. LORD, I trust in You, in Your Word, in Your timing, and in the power of Your name. May Your will be done – AMEN.

Thank you for praying with power!!
